The February run included a lot of rolling and crashing! The good news is that this time Allen did not lose a windshield! (Please see the web site if you don’t know what I am talking about) Because as you can see above it was a bowling run! We had three lanes going 2 adult and one kids lane with the bumpers up and everything. Even as much as he whined we would not let Peter use the kids lane. The action started at 1pm and ended up at 5pm with Pizza. Some of the highlights included a high score of 175 bowled by Rich, and a low score (which we won’t mention) bowled by Allen’s lovely wife Rosie.
Pete hosted a mini golf day followed by a Top Truck screening and pizza on the 5th. There we no reports of broken parts or any one needing a tow on this run either.
There was an emergency meeting held on Wednesday March 2, 2005 to discuss the future of Cow Mountain. Some of the things discussed were:

Input for the South Cow Mountain OHV park master plan. New volunteer working support group…“4x4 Friends of Cow Mountain” Our new group is made up of four-wheel users who have decided to get together to volunteer to help with workday projects working on 4x4 (Jeep) trails on South Cow Mountain. Some are local and some are from 4x4 clubs from the surrounding counties. We are soliciting any responsible 4x4 wheeler to join us. We are not a “club” but will simply keep in touch via email arranging activities and workdays. We are willing to help with needed projects that specifically have to do with enhancing the recreation experience of four wheelers on the four-wheel trails and obstacle course area. We intend to organize workdays where we will provide volunteer workers to do trail maintenance from brushing to bringing in more rocks and obstacles. We are willing to pay our own way and are committed to hitting the ground this summer to help make a difference. We hope the BLM will help us get out there and do some much-needed work without delay. Things we’d like to see over the next few years: -Developing the 4x4 obstacle course area more making it the hub for 4 wheelers. -Installing pit toilets at the obstacle course area (concrete). -Develop more campsites around Red. Mtn. and the obstacle course side. -Not allowing shooting around Red Mtn. & obstacle course area. -Convert some of the trails to “one way” use only (for safety to motorcyclists). -Have certain trails just for motorcycles OR 4x4’s. -Link up some trails making loops and widening for 4x4’s. Trail 14 & 26, 11 & 19, 9 & 11, 8 & 9 are all possibilities. -Perhaps even different areas such as making trails 2 though 6 and that whole area just for motorcycles. -A program for keeping the trails 4x4’s use most bushed on a rotating system. The trails we identify with most are 7, 8, 9, 11, 15, 17, 23, and 25. -Stop the use of the “blade” on 4x4 trails unless erosion is specifically a concern and then only used at the spot of the problem and not the entire trail. -Additional parking at Ukiah side staging area. -Development of more new trails for 4x4 use. |
