It was a stormy
Monday night in January, when the Santa Rosa 4x4’s meet to cover that month’s
business. We had a lot to talk about you see, we had just gotten back from our
winter wonderful New Years traditional trip to lake Pillsbury. This year’s trip
did not disappoint either. For from the heavens with out reprieve the snow fell
cover the earth with more than 10 inches of snow in some of the lower parts of
the valley. The entertainment was vast as well because Art our trusty trail
leader and comic relief decided to bring vehicle that had not run for 3 years before
that day. With street tires on, He led us up the main road to Hull Mountain.
Let the slipping and sliding begin!!!!!! First it was our fearless leader Art
that decided to just abandon his trustee steed on the side of the road, than
came Greg who tried to show how light those Sami’s really are by demonstrating
with just two wheels on the ground (of course there was a cliff on the other
side and it took a winch cable and several club members to help him out of his
predicament). Next Rich turning a corner slid right into the mountainside, but
no fear the Indians were on the way and Randy was nice enough to get him out.
In the meantime Donnie being the selfless guy he is was trying to come down to
help Rich out of his jam but instead got himself in one. Lots of shoveling and
some sideways sliding got him out. So were all off to lunch. By this time the
open cab and lack of heat had gotten to Jim’s wife so on his way out, he got
struck, and with the help of 6000rpms turned his bronco into a newfangled three
wheeled drive version. After lunch we all headed down before we were going to
get snowed in. Half the group headed on the other half headed to the sunset
trail. How did that go you ask? I will have to refer you to pictures of water
flowing through Art’s Rig. Let’s just say that he needed a strap just to get
into one of the mud holes.
